Hello,
I am in the process of putting a mechanism back together and had a few questions. ( I installed bronze bushings in the front and rear castings)
I forgot to note which way the selector crank part # 40391 goes on the shaft. Does the "tab" that does the resetting go inline in relation with the "bottom" pointed end, or the "top" flat part, of the heart shaped

Hi,
Chances are the refrigerant has just leaked out over time.
I just had my Vendo V39 recharged with R-12. A qualified tech did the work ( I supplied the R-12) and he told me that if it is original , it just leaks out over time.
He did check for leaks first.
You put a small amount of dye in the system , and pressurize with nitrogen.
There were no leaks , so he put 1 lb. of R-12 in (it

Hi Axel,
Thanks for the quick response ! You wouldn't happen to know the size of the bearings off hand would you?
I could take a few of them to the local supplier, to have them measure them, and see if they have them in stock.
Either way, I guess I have to come up with some more loose ball bearings.
Thanks again...

Hello,
Does anybody know how many small ball bearings are supposed to be in the round "track" of the color cylinder support shaft.
Figure 27 (page 28) in the manual shows part number 44135 (Drive gear and pin assembly). It fits over the steel shaft and is supported by some loose ball bearings.
When I disassembled both the left and right units to clean and re-lube. I discovered one

Hello,
I can't really say anything about the Seeburgs, I just finished restoring a 1962 Continental 2 (200 play ,stereo, 33/45 automix) about a month ago.
I had restored a Wurlitzer 1900 about 2 years ago. They are both using the same cartridge (pfanstiehl P-132D)
I modified the inputs on both for the ceramic cartridge.
I thought the Wurlitzer sounded really, good ( spent a long time t

Hello,
Inside the power supply (if it is original) will be a selenium bridge, and a large electrolytic capacitor (probably around 1000 uf at 50 volts or so).
If these items have not been updated ie.(newer silicon diodes or a full wave bridge ) Install new electrolytic capacitor and you should be ok.
However, judging by the "looks" of your 110 volt wiring, it looks like it might be

Hello,
I actually bought the cerium oxide from a gentleman on E-bay. He was in Michigan, U.S.A. I believe that 16 oz. cost me around 15 dollars U.S.. I can dig up his e-bay handle if you wish. There apparently are differing "grades", he said his was the "best available". I still have about half the bag left. It is very messy as the polisher throws it around. I did it outsid

Hello,
Just to let eveyone know.
You don't need a glass professional for this problem.
I was able to completely remove the 4 inch scratch with a slow rotating "polisher" and a slurry mix of "cerium oxide". The dome is very nice now. Working very slow, with low RPM I was able to completely remove the scratch from the dome glass. This stuff is amazing. It also complete

I was wondering if someone with a good Continental amp could put an ohmmeter across the output terminal strip (E1-E6), E4 being ground. with the speakers disconnected of course. This one is stereo.
I'm looking for resistance readings for the various pinouts.
I'm trying to determine if I have a bad ouput transformer.
Thanks to all

Hello All,
I am going to try my hand at restoring a Wurlitzer 1015. Does anyone know what the proper colour "Brown" is for this machine ?
Is there a RAL number that is a good match ?
Thanks to all...

Hello All !
I have a scratch in the dome of this Continental 2 jukebox. Now I know that deep scratches can be a problem to remove. This one is about 2 inches long and is not real deep. Running my fingernail across it, it barely catches. (It is more white in colour, almost like a glancing blow rather than a scratch. I read about the qualities of cerium oxide for removing scratches from glass. I h

Hello All,
I just saw this recent post on slashdot that was just posted. Interesting article. The video is a good watch, and the gentleman involved are from Germany. Does anyone having any knowledge of these discs working on a jukebox? Might be worth checking into.

Hello,
Thank-You Charly49 for the quick response. Your answer again was a big help. It seems that A-1 is 7 pins over to the left of the gripper bow (looking from the back). A-2 is exactly opposite on the other side of the pinwheel. (inside row).
I seem to be having a problem with spacing now. Between the record carousel and the back of the aluminum support casting.
There is only 1 large washer

Hello,
I have a question regarding the A-1 position on a 200 play Continental 2.
I can clearly see a line ( about the 1 o'clock position) It points to the inner row of pins between pins 9 and 10 (over from the center of the outer shoe support.)
The manual clearly shows pin A-1 at about the 10:30 -11:00 o'clock position, but the outer most row of pins. (page RCS-25 in the manual)

Hi,
Well after getting the hinge off the machine, I got most of the rust off with a wire wheel. I was able to get a better look at the hinge.
It seems to be "crimped" or has little "press" marks on both ends about 1/8 " back. It prevents the inner drill rod from being punched out.
What I did was to use a flat screwdriver and small flat punch to reverse the crimp. I wa

Hello,
I would like to disassemble the piano hinge that allows the front panel to hinge. I would like to get it replated as it is solid rust. My question is, can I punch out the drill rod that keeps the 2 halves together (with a lot of penetrating oil) or is one section "crimped" against the rod to prevent me from doing this. Has anyone had to do this, in restoring their machine ?

Hello Charly49
As always, you have all the answers :)
That might have been easy to spot, except the magazine is not on the assembly. Also, everything is in a million pieces, trying to get this filthy machine cleaned up.
This unit seems to be a lot more work than the wurlitzers I've worked on.
I've been taking apart the solenoid silver contacts one at a time polishing them with a dr

Greetings to all in 2013 !
I have a question regarding the Record transfer inner shoe. It is part number F-2918 in the manual. It works with the L-1070 Transfer arm assembly.
In my haste to get this assembly apart and bead blasted and repainted, I forgot to note which way this part was installed. The manual has been great in this regard, except this.

Hello,
Thanks again for the feedback. It's always nice to here the advice from the pro's. With all of the "junk" coming out of China nowadays I can see why the "old" stuff will last a lot longer. It was made much better.
I keep thinking it is the late 70's , early 80's when you could still buy things that would last a lifetime.

Hello ,
Thank-you Charly49 for the advice on the diode. What are your thoughts on replacing the ceramic disc capacitors ?
I know they rarely go bad, but if I'm re-capping anyway.. My logic would say that the more modern components would keep the machine playing longer into the future trouble free. Besides, I actually enjoy this type of work :)
All the best

Hi,
I am re-capping the amplifier (R2777b) and pre-amp in this unit, as well as checking for out of tolerence resisters. I thought I might as well replace the rectifier that is listed as F-8362 in the manual. (It is mounted on the same terminal strip as the 25 MFD @ 50 volt electrolytic ,F-8264). The value of it is not found in the manual. I'm assuming this is part of the bias network. Wha

Hi All.
I have a question regarding the selector pins in a Continental 2.
This machine that I am working on, must have been stored in an unheated garage. The pins are rusty.
After looking at various pictures on the "net" it appears that the pins were originally anodized to prevent them from oxidizing.
Anyway, these ones have the "steel" colour and don't appear to ha

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the advice on the transportation of this machine. I have a few more questions. I have managed to remove most of the records by taking off the belt and metal holders that retain the records, by slipping them out the sides and top. There are still a few at the bottom and sides that I can't get out because the carousel will not turn.
All of the wiring is rotten, and ther

Hello,
I am going to pickup a AMI Continental 2.
I plan on laying it on it's back for the trip. Is there anything special I need to know about securing the various parts.
Does the mechanism bolt down the same way the mid fifties wurlitzers do ?
Does the "radar" unit have to be removed to prevent breaking the supporting casting or the glass ?
Will the 2 "rails" on

Hi
I have a question regarding the selecter assembly on an original 1015. I don't have a manual yet, one is on the way, so I'm not sure what they are called.
If you open the door and look at the 4 selecters, on the left of each one is a (what used to be clear, I think) plastic or phenolic board on stand offs. They look like they don't do anything, other than strengthen the selec

Hello
I had tried to find this elusive information as well (upgrading the cobra system). No disrespect to charly49 for wanting to keep things original. There is a "newer" method that I find works better. (Quoted from Harold Hagen).
Instead of bypassing the 12AU7 tube (cobra oscillator). and going directly to the 6AN8 tube, use the 12AU7 as a voltage amplifier stage.

Thanks to charly49 for helping me get this beast up and running. I'm now turning my attention to upgrading the cobra cartridge. I've followed everything that Harold Hagen described in his Wurlitzer Volume #2 book.
Page 21 "Replacing Cobra with ceramic cartridge".
He goes on to say that, You don't have to remove all the components around the cobra oscillator section.
