Buying on Ebay in the USA?

Hello,

Is there anyone who has experience in buying spare parts or other things through Ebay in the USA, and shipping them to Europe trough customs? I have had a very bad experience with buying a secondhand remote controlled car in the USA( these things are much cheaper over there). Belgian customs blocked my package, claimed that one of the electronics inside was forbidden for Belgium, and destroyed the whole package, allthough the "forbidden" piece was a separate piece in the package of components. This joke costed me more than 500€. So my question is: Is shipment and import of parts from the USA to Europe through Ebay safe?
