Good, then we finally agree on the same logic.
For the 445, I will keep the 9-pin connector for the remote write-in side, and use K4-4 on the 12-pin connector only as a clean STOP feedback for the ESP32.
That should keep the CPU away from the active K4-1 write-in circuit.

Thank you, that makes sense now.
I agree with your explanation: the pin numbers may differ between models or drawings, but the wire colors and functions seem to match much better.
For my 445, I now understand the 9-pin receiver connector this way:
* YEL-RED / PINK-WHT = Write-In Relay path
* RED-BLK / RED-WHT = Stop Relay path
* GRY-RED / GRY = K4-1 NO / STOP feed path

You are right to ask the question.
On my 445, according to the wiring we have traced so far, K4-1 does not seem to be available on the 9-pin receiver connector.
The 9-pin connector has the jumper functions for write-in / stop relay / accumulator reset / ground return, but K4-1 appears on the 12-pin receiver connector:
* 12-pin pin 9 = BLU-YEL = K4-1 line
* 12-pin pin 7

You are right, I was thinking too much in terms of “keyboard emulation”, but the important point is the final code generated for the write-in selector disc.
For the Rock-Ola 445, I now understand the idea as:
* 5 segment lines for number pairs: 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/0
* 10 stop positions
* 2 lines for A/B side, inner or outer selecto

I have one question about the relay approach. Maybe I misunderstood your idea.
On my Rock-Ola 445, we have 100 selections, so in a simple approach we could simulate the keyboard/selector contacts with something like 10 letter lines and 10 number lines.
But in our concept, the ESP32 wallbox interface already knows the final

Our future concept is not to reproduce the original mechanical stepper in every detail, but to build a more modern electronic system.

The scan is good enough to understand the general stepper/write-in architecture, but for tracing wire colors, terminal numbers and connector functions, a higher resolution version would be very useful.

What I am now trying to understand are the actual electrical and wiring differences between:

My goal is to understand how the Rock-Ola 17xx receivers were connected and operated, so that I can reproduce the receiver logic electronically.

Hello,
I am restoring a Rock-Ola 445 jukebox and I am trying to understand the original receiver connection used with a wallbox.
I already have:

* the complete Rock-Ola 1765 receiver manual
* photos of adapter harnesses 2131/32 and 2145
