Hi,
I have removed cleaned all contacts on on my rockola 403 button bank. It now works OK except number 1 button will not lock after a letter selection is made.
If I press number 1 before the letter it will lock andall is OK.
Small problem but i would be grateful for any advice on how to fix. I have checked all contacts and solder points on the button bank and it seems ok.
Thank

Hi, I am restoring a 403 at the moment and also have a problem with the chrome plating. However, much of the aluminium casting can be mirror polished.
My posts here:
The video was filmed 8 weeks ago and the jukebox is almost finished other than compound polishing.
Hope this is a help
Nick.

Hi Neil, Are you certain it is the output valves?
If it were the only cause of the fault it would have reversed the problem?
If you are certain i have some reasonable used 6973 tubes.
Nick.

Hi Neil,
Make sure power is off. Swap the 2 pairs of 6793's
Make sure all valves are in correct position, properly seated and do not run the amp with missing valves.
See if the sound is restored or you have output to previously bad channel.
If capacitors are faulty then you will need a repair or some electrical experience.
Where are you located?

Hi, Sounds like you have a complete channel out. What you are hearing is crosstalk (bleed) from the good channel. If the amp is original, it will be due a re cap anyway, at the very least the electrolytic capacitors will need changing. You can swap the valves to see if they are at fault. The balance control is an unlikey suspect.
Hope this helps,
Nick.

Hi, is it ok to use the 42845-A valve amp in the 220v european version of the 432 GP160 jukebox? Would it need modifying and are there any other valve amps that would directly fit?
Thanks, Nick.

hi charly, you were indeed correct and corroded contacts in the button bank were the cause of the fault. thanks a million for your help.

hi charly, thanks for the exellent description, this is my 1st complete rockola repair/restoration and still finding my way around !
i spent some time today checking through and this is where i am at...

hi will and charly, wobble plate and wipers are all good. the problem seems to be with the attract/delay relay. it seems that the switches on this relay have to contact at 'exactly' the same time for the the mech to opperate 100% correctly. i will spend some time adjusting this with a gauge and also check the contacts and blocks for cracks and dry joints. i will also double check the wi

hi, is 1/16" (open position) the correct open gap for the relay switches in the control box of a rockola 403? the jukebox works well for a while when the contacts are set to this but after a while i have some problems with the write in (K selections) and read out (cancel solenoid not working on some selections). after cleaning and resetting all will be well for a day or two but then the faul

hi clemens,
thanks for your reply. i have been looking at the P-132D and will certainly give it a try. i have put in a bsr st12m and the sound is greatly improved, much 'fatter', but it 'looks' wrong and bothers me a little. the profile of the P-132D is much like the original. i am in the process of rebuilding my amp a little at a time so hopefully all will

hi, i have rebuilt the valve amp in my 403 and all is good. i would like to fit a better cartridge than a replacement for the astatic 17D which i find sounds a little 'thin'. any suggestions for around 30 to 50 euro?
many thanks, nick.

hi, what are the values of the capacitors across the volume control remote panel of the 34725-A amplifier? I can make out the 100v but the rest is very faded.
thank you, nick.

hi charly, point taken. i read up on the phase inversion part of this amp....unusual and i was thinking along the lines of the 60's record players that were mono but had carts stereo wired. i see now this is very different with a stereo ouput inverted to mono. i think i will wait until i have the original box to check it out further. many thanks for your help

hi charly and thanks. it was the input voltages i was concerned about. i will double check and pay close attention to the input/output before i power on.
it seems to be a small problem with the amp but i am having trouble tracking it down. there is unwanted 'vibrato' within the overall sound. other than that, the amp is good and strong. could be a valve problem but that would be an exp

Hello, my question, is it ok to plug a tempo 2 amp into a 403 jukebox to test. are voltage and plug the same or will it cause damage?

thanks alan and charly,
interesting it was a problem from new, throwing in more money does get rid of the buzz....! alan, i checked my manual and no reference to the fault (that i could see). i will strip the latch down and clean it up, there is 40 years of grime in there. will let you know re. the solonoid. do you do parts? i have a channel out on the amp which

hi, sometimes, but not always, when the latch coil is activated it produces a loud 'BUZZ'. (when the juke is switched on, or a selection made). it will stop if you make another selection or switch the juke off and on again. the problem is not always present and the buzz is definately coming from the latch coil. is a replacement solonoid needed or is there a fix?
thank you.

hi,
after making a selection i find the jukebox runs normally but the selection accululator motor continues to run and selection buttons remain in. the unit will only reset when mains is switched off. i have checked relay 3 and unijunction resistor and all seems ok but the problem continues. the jukebox was running fine until i connected the credit unit and had to reset the 28v breaker but was

hi charly, done exactly that and all is fine now. the problem did occur after i had dusted off the button contacts so i guess i moved 40 years of grime to the wrong place! thank you for your help as i would not have guessed why fault occured.
best regards, nick

hi alan,
just checked and i have the r2179 amp and i have to agree.... i kicks ass! ....even thought i seem to only be getting a mono output at the moment which i have yet to investigate (can't see a mono switch). my wurly 3800 sounds 'wooly' when compared. bass is especially tight and defined....really quite impressed with this little box and looking forward to making a

disappointed that the serial is missing and i guess there is no way to link the mechanism serial with the box. the tranny amp suggests a later model as i think early ones had tubes? many thanks to alan for the wiring advice and stuff in general...i may need to call you at some point for help if ok?

hi hildegard,
no the tone arm is fine and returns perfectly. it is just that the machine will not 'spend' any credit from the credit mech. (permanent free play). so a minor problem. i am going to try get hold of a service manual (none in the UK on ebay etc...sadly) and start a proper overhaul soon. looks like the manual will cost as much as the juke! bit dissapointed th

yes....the very same! still no trace of an id plate. i bought it from a farmer in the south of england yesterday. it has been stored in a disused pig shed for a very long time. the amp needs an overhaul and the the coin mech will put credit on but not take off after a record is played. other than that it checks out very well.
