Possible amp problem

Hi, I have a AMI continental 2 which seems to have developed reduced volume and base, just wondering if this could be an amp problem, when I run my finger across the stylus there is no sound which I read is an indicator of a amp issue, could anyone please advise, it would be greatly appreciated.
