Hello jukebox fans. I hope someone will be able to help me with this little problem:
I am restoring my RockOla 1454, and noticed that the rear bearing housing of the record drum (aluminium) has worn over the years. This has resulted in the steel record drum axle having some vertical play (around 0.5 mm). I know this is not too much, but I would still like to improve this. I have investigated in inserting a plastic bearing sleeve, but as this item needed to be custom made for the axle diameter (28.45 mm), this option proved to be too expensive at £75,=. Assuming that I am not the only only one with this problem, I would like to know how any of you solved this problem.

Looking forward to your replies

PS, please reply in German such that everyone can take part in this discussion. I can read German without any problems, it's just that my German writing skills are not that great anymore.... Thanks,

Hi
will do this in English for I have the same problem

don't have the problem you described with my 1448
but perhaps the following is a solution :

you have a vertical play of 0.5 mm : that's 0.25 at each end
( this also should mean you have the same horizontal play )
the axle diameter is 28.45

the wear probably ain't fully eccentric

in the former workplace we had copper strips of different measurements
0.5 mm copper is still flexible , 1 mm I don't know

to overcome the 0.5 mm play you need a 0.25mm copper strip
but you have to prevent the strip is moving either inwards or outwards
when the drum is moving

this can be done by flattening both sides ( or use some type of glue )

but an even better solution is to drill it out with a 29 mm drill and use a 0.5mm strip
this way you have it fully eccentric again

drill it from the rear and not the whole way through
( stop at approx. 5mm from the end )
this way the copper strip won't be able the move inside

hope it makes any sense for I done this on the top of my head

best regards AB
