Continental 2 Selector pins

Hi All.
I have a question regarding the selector pins in a Continental 2.
This machine that I am working on, must have been stored in an unheated garage. The pins are rusty.
After looking at various pictures on the "net" it appears that the pins were originally anodized to prevent them from oxidizing.
Anyway, these ones have the "steel" colour and don't appear to have been anodized.
I have been chucking them up in the drill press and polishing them with a little LPS and 3M scotch brite pads. (Yes, it is taking forever !) , but they shine like new.
Question is, they say NOT to oil the pins when they go back in the drum with the retainers.
What can I coat them with to prevent them from rusting again, if not oil. ( graphite ?)

Thanks to all in advance..
Tony

Hello Tony

There are two versions. For most devices, the pins are made of brass but some are made of steel. Since the pins are cleaned and polished, you can also lubricate them. This is done with a light machine oil or "Ballistol". This is a gun oil that I use for years without any side effects. You can get it here in the shop.
